To provide a production method of a maleic anhydride alkyl vinyl ether copolymer, wherein the copolymer does not give a bad influence to a human body, does not adhere to such as a wall of a reactor in a cheap solvent when reacting, and is obtained through precipitation polymerization with a fine-solid shape, and to provide the maleic anhydride alkyl vinyl ether copolymer.
The maleic anhydride alkyl vinyl ether copolymer is produced by (1) feeding maleic anhydride and an organic solvent in the reactor, and heating a uniform maleic anhydride solution at a constant polymerization temperature, (2) copolymerizing an alkyl vinyl ether in the presence of a free radical initiator, suspending a formed copolymer in a reaction medium, and forming a slurry, (3) removing the organic solvent used in the reaction in the range of a specific temperature. The maleic anhydride alkyl vinyl ether copolymer having a little residual solvent and the fine-solid shape, is provided.
