Abstract:
To provide a method of simply and cheaply producing a partial oxide of an aromatic alcohol, an aromatic aldehyde or the like.
At least one species of oxygen-containing aromatic compounds selected from aromatic alcohols, aromatic aldehydes, and aromatic ketones is produced by causing an alkylbenzene compound comprising hydrogen on its position to bring into contact with an oxidation agent in the presence of a compound represented by formula (1): MX2, to oxidize the alkylbenzene compound at its position [in the formula, M represents an alkaline earth metal, and X represents halogen and/or a residue of a carboxylic acid removed of one hydrogen atom].
