Abstract:
To provide a method of selectively hydrogenating an unsaturated bond present on the - position alone in a , -unsaturated alcohol, which reaction is extremely important in the pharmaceutical/agrochemical field.
A saturated alcohol is efficiently produced by carrying out the hydrogenation of a , -unsaturated alcohol using an alcohol as a hydrogen source in the presence of a catalyst constituted of supported ruthenium which is formed by dispersing anatase titania in a solution comprising trivalent ruthenium, and subsequently adding a base thereinto to make pH of the solution equal to or higher than 8.
