Title:
METHOD FOR PURIFICATION OF BETA-PHENYLETHYL ALCOHOL
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3846101
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To purify β-phenylethyl alcohol useful for perfumes, etc., without requiring complicated devices and operations and with efficiently separating and removing nasty smell components by washing crude β-phenylethyl alcohol with an aqueous alkali solution, extracting and distilling the extract.
SOLUTION: Crude β-phenyletyl alcohol is purified by extracting and distilling the crude β-phenylethyl alcohol with an extracting solvent such as water, water and 1,2-ethanediol, water and 1,2-ethanediol monomethyl ether and the like, subsequently extracting the extracting solvent used for the extraction and distillation with other extracting solvent such as a hydrocarbon oil, an aromatic oil containing benzene, toluene and/or xylene or the like. It is preferable to reuse the solvent used in the extraction process to recycle to the extracting and distilling process.
