To provide a method for removing tin from molten iron, with which tin can be efficiently removed from molten iron produced by carburizing/melting iron scrap, or molten iron produced by melting iron scrap, when manufacturing steel products using iron scrap as an iron source.
In the method of removing the tin from the molten iron, the tin contained in the molten iron is removed by supplying solid ammonium salt to the molten iron containing ≥0.04 mass% sulfur and by thermally decomposing the solid ammonium salt in the molten iron or on the molten iron surface, in an atmosphere under the pressure reduced from an atmospheric pressure. In this case, it is preferable that the pressure of the atmosphere is ≤2,000 Pa, the sulfur content is ≤0.3 mass% or the carbon content in the molten iron is ≥2.0 mass%.
