Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a mechanism for receiving and holding a soft material on a surface having a plurality of sections in which the soft material can be held correctly by providing a trigger mechanism for introducing a vacuum force from a vacuum generating mechanism to each section, and a mechanism for distributing the vacuum force to respective sections.
SOLUTION: A platen 103 is provided with a large number of vacuum ports communicating with vacuum grooves 112 made in the outer surface 111 of the platen 103 so that vacuum sucked into a fastener 101 through the vacuum port distributes a suction force over the outer surface 111 through the grooves 112. The platen 103 is also provided with a vacuum distribution trigger port 117 contiguously to the edge of the outer surface 111 and a plurality of, e.g. three, sections 121-123 on the platen surface 111 are connected with the vacuum distribution trigger port 117. Vacuum force is distributed through a multi-branch pipe 107 provided with pairs of plenum chamber 231'-233' by a diaphragm and a vacuum gate valve plate 105.
