Abstract:
PURPOSE: To produce a dimethyl alkyl acetal industrially, simply and in excellent final yield.
CONSTITUTION: A dimethyl alkyl acetal is obtained by using (a) a process for making acetaldehyde, methanol and an acid catalyst exist at part of a rectification column and operating rectification while acetalization, (b) a process for using n-hexane or cyclohexane as an azeotropic solvent, distilling away methanol from the reaction solution and obtaining high-purity acetaldehyde dimethyl acetal from the bottom of a rectification column, (c) a process for recovering n-hexane or cyclohexane by extraction with water and (d) a process for using the separated azeotropic solvent in the second process and a water layer rich in methanol in the first process, respectively.
