To provide a method for sterilizing a seed substantially completely sterilizing not only a surface of an organism seed but also its interior by a high-voltage pulse streamer discharge without obstructing a germination at a seeding time after the sterilization.
A treating apparatus 3 having a discharge side electrode 4 having many needle-like electrodes 4a along a lengthwise direction of a conveying member 1 made of an endless belt conveyor, and a flat-plate-like ground side electrode 5 arranged at opposite positions is provided. The apparatus 3 is built in a high-voltage power supply circuit to generate the high-voltage pulse streamer discharge between the electrode 4 and the electrode 5. The method for sterilizing the seed comprises the steps of supplying the seed 2 of a cabbage of an object to be sterilized on the belt conveyor of the conveying member 1, conveying the seed 2 to the treating apparatus 3, and sterilizing the seed by the high-voltage pulse streamer discharge.
