To provide a method for identifying a compound useful for treating sexual dysfunction, a pharmaceutical composition comprising a compound useful for treating obesity, and a kit.

The identifying method comprises the steps of (1) determining whether a compound affects the binding of agouti-related protein to a melanocortin receptor, (2) determining whether the compound affects the binding of α-melanocyte stimulating hormone to the melanocortin receptor; and (3) selecting a compound which attenuates the binding of the agouti-related protein to the melanocortin receptor, but does not attenuate the binding of the α-melanocyte stimulating hormone to the melanocortin receptor. The pharmaceutical composition and kit comprise the compound which attenuates the binding of the agouti-related protein to the melanocortin receptor, but does not attenuate the binding of the α-melanocyte stimulating hormone to the melanocortin receptor.
