PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problems that it is necessary for a user to walk to a front of a device to which the user wants to perform login, and to perform an operation to hold an IC card over an IC card reader, and to wait until the IC card is authenticated in the case of performing login by using the IC card, and that a user may forget to carry the IC card.SOLUTION: In a communication system having a portable terminal and an information processing apparatus, the portable terminal is configured to acquire distance between the portable terminal and the information processing apparatus on the basis of a signal of short-range radio communication with the information processing apparatus, and to, when the acquired distance is shorter than a first predetermined value, establish short-range radio communication with the information processing apparatus, and to transmit a service request to the information processing apparatus in a state in which the short-range radio communication is established, and to receive a response to the service request from the information processing apparatus. The information processing apparatus is configured to, when receiving the service request from the portable terminal, transmit a response to the service request to the portable terminal by the short-range radio communication.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 6
