Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide the subject novel substance containing chitosan as an active ingredient and useful for preventing and treating hypertension because of inhibiting the absorption of Cl- in living bodies, where the Cl- has an action to activate angiotensin I converting enzyme having a hypertensive action.
CONSTITUTION: This additive substance for stimulating the excretion of chlorine in foods contains chitosan as an active ingredient. The chitosan is usually obtained by deacetylating chitin contained in the shells of crustaceans such as shrimps and crabs. The chitosan is usually used at a daily dose of 5-6g for an adult male essential hypertension patient weighing 70kg and taking daily 12g of salt.
