PURPOSE: To provide a paper sheet feed device of which the occupied floor area can be reduced and the space in a working place can be effectively utilized by providing a stand-by device having a nearly vertical column part and a carry-out part provided thereunder, and providing a first stopper and a second stopper in the carry-out part.

CONSTITUTION: A stand-by device is constituted of a column part 6 nearly vertically provided and a carry-out part 7 provided thereunder. This column part 6 is provided so as to be vertical or a little inclined on the side of a machine frame 4, hereby, paper sheets placed in the stand-by device are laminated along the column part 6 as a single laminated layer body. The carry-out part 7 under the column part 6 is constituted of four side walls 11, 12, 13, 14 arranged into a box form opening upper and lower faces, a first stopper 8, and a second stopper 9, and these side walls can be adjusted except one basic side wall. Consequently, the floor area required for the laminated layer body of paper sheets becomes a small area for placing a single paper sheet, so as to be remarkably reduced.
