Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an alcohol and a carboxylic acid by a Cannizzaro's reaction in supercritical water to give an extremely high reaction rate even without adding a high-concentration alkali.
SOLUTION: This method for a catalyst-free organic synthetic reaction comprises carrying out an organic synthetic reaction in supercritical water or in subcritical water at 350°C in a catalyst-free state without adding a basic catalyst by utilizing supply of OH from water so as to increase a reaction rate of organic synthetic reaction. An alcohol and a carboxylic acid are formed at a high reaction rate by carrying out a Cannizzaro's reaction in supercritical water in a catalyst-free state without adding a basic catalyst. An alcohol and a carboxylic acid are formed from an aldehyde in the vicinity of a supercritical point (375-380°C, 22.5-25 MPa) of supercritical water in a catalyst-free state without adding a basic catalyst.
