To obtain a new compound having potent inhibitory activity against the production of nitrogen monoxide (NO), thus useful for preventing/treating NO-mediated diseases.
This new compound is shown by formula I [R1 is phenyl, etc.; A1 is A4-(CO)n (A4 is a lower alkylene; (n) is 0 or 1), etc.; R2 is OH, etc.; R7 is H, etc.; A2 is a lower alkylene, etc.; R3 is a lower alkyl, etc.; A3 is imidazolyl- diyl, etc.; R4 is H, etc.; (m) is 0 or 1], e.g. a compound of formula II. The compound of formula I is obtained by reaction of a compound of formula III or its reactive derivative at the amino group site or a salt thereof with a compound of the formula R1-COOH or its reactive derivative at the carboxyl group site or a salt thereof. This new compound of formula I is effective for proplylavis/ treatment of NO-mediated diseases such as adult respiratory distress syndrome, cardiovascular ischemia, myocarditis, cardiac failure, synovitis, shock, diabetes, nephritis, digestive ulcer, inflammatory bowel disease, cerebral infarction, cerebral ischemia, cerebral hemorrhage, megrim, chronic arthrorheumatism, gout, asthma, and Alzheimer's disease.
