Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method for producing the subject compound by reacting an epoxide with the magnesium halide salt of a phosphite diester, enabling to obtain the compound from the epoxide in a good yield.
SOLUTION: This method for producing a phosphonate diester of formula III or IV comprises reacting an epoxide of formula I(R1-R4 are each a substituent) with a phosphite diester magnesium halide salt of formula II (R5, R6 are each a hydrocarbon group which may be substituted; X is a halogen). Therein, the compound of formula II is addition-reacted to the compound of formula I, and the magnesium halide in the addition reaction product is substituted by a proton. The reaction is preferably carried out in an etheric solvent such as dioxane at a temperature of -60 to -40°C. The compound of formula II is preferably obtained by reacting a phosphite diester such as di(phenylmethyl) phosphite ester with a Grignard reagent of the formula: R7MgX (R7 is a hydrocarbon group which may be substituted) such as methyl magnesium bromide.
