Abstract:

To provide a new ruthenium complex having high catalytic activity in the metathesis reaction of an olefin compound and in the hydrogenation reaction of an olefin compound and high in stability, to provide a method for producing the above ruthenium complex, and to provide a method for using the above complex as a catalyst for olefin metathesis reaction or olefin hydrogenation reaction.

The objective new ruthenium compound is such as to be coordinated with a substituted imidazoline-2-ylidene having a substituent on the nitrogen atom and have such a structure that an aromatic ring and an imidazoline ring are condensed with each other through sharing two carbon atoms. This new ruthenium compound is used in an olefin metathesis reaction and a hydrogenation reaction of a compound having an olefinically unsaturated bond.
