Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a composition containing a noncrosslinked poly-branched polymer having a comb burst shape and having possible use as, e.g., a deemulsifier for an oil-in-water emulsion by selecting a composition containing a specified noncrosslinked poly-branched polymer.
CONSTITUTION: A composition is selected which contains a noncrosslinked polybranched polymer having the formula [wherein Rc is a nonreactive terminal group; R0 to R3 and R1 are each a free-radical, cationic, or anionic migration initiator; Ac, A0 to A3, and Ai are each an oligomer or polymer formed of a nonreactive comonomer or a poymerizable monomer; Bc, B0 to B3, and Bi are each an oligomer or polymer formed of an (un)protected reactive nucleophilic or electrophilic monomer or a polymerizable monomer; G is a terminal group or a graft component; nc is the degree of polymerization of core initiator; n0 is the degree of polymerization of a first comb branch; n1 to n3, and ni are the degrees of polymerization of first to third and i-th generation comb burst branches; ni≥2 provided i=c, 0, or 1; ni≥2 provided ni-1>0 and the ratio of units A to units B is (0 to 1):(100 to 1)].
