PURPOSE: To provide a novel compound useful as a raw material for polymers, especially polyesters, etc.
CONSTITUTION: 8,9-Dihydroxymethyl-tricyclo[5.2.1.02.6]dec-2-ene of formula I. The compound of formula I is obtained by reducing a tricyclo[5.2.1.02.6]dec-2- ene-8,9-dicarboxylic acid derivative of formula II [A is OH, -OR (R is alkyl, cycloalkyl, benzenesubstituted alkyl; R may contain O, N), or A and A together form >O] preferably by a sodium reducing method.
