Title:
METHOD FOR ADJUSTING DENSITY OF DIGITAL IMAGE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3844791
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide the saving mode of toner or ink for a high resolution printer.
CONSTITUTION: This method is achieved by generating a mask pattern, adding it to image data before printing and reducing the number of dots to be actually printed. In one embodiment by a hardware, a repetitive mask is generated by using a pair of finite state machines and the mask is offset from a certain row to the next row at the time of being applied to the image data. The mask is applied to the image data by ANDing the bits in the mask and the bits in the image data. In the case that OFF bits appear in the mask, the corresponding bits in the image data are surely turned OFF. An edge detection/preservation function preserves some or all of the upper, lower, left and right edges of images or characters. For edge preservation, the adjacent picture elements of the image are compared before masking and preserving a 'transition' picture element and ON picture elements for which OFF picture elements precede or succeed are preserved.
