Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polymer which is solvent-soluble, can be thermally melted, and has a high heat resistance by hydrosilylating a polymer having a pentacyclo [9.5.1.13,9.15,15.17,13]octasiloxane backbone in the presence of an aliphatic or aromatic monoolefin and a platinum-containing catalyst.
SOLUTION: A polymer having a pentacyclo[9.5.1.13,9.15,15.17,13]octasiloxane backbone represented by the formula is hydrosilylated to give a silsesquioxane- containing polymer which is a polymer having a structure formed by substituting the whole or a part of hydrogen atoms on silicone atoms of a polymer having a backbone represented by the formula with alkyl or aralkyl groups. In the formula, R is an optionally substituted monovalent organic or organosilicon group; R' is an optionally substituted divalent organic or organometallic group; (m) is 2, 3 or 4; (m') is 2 or 4; (m'') is 2, 3 or 4; (n), (n') and (n") are each a positive integer; and (q) is 0 or 1.
