PURPOSE: To obtain a nucleic acid multimer containing a first nucleic acid unit-specifically binding to the objective first single stranded nucleic acid sequence and a multiplicity of a second nucleic acid units specifically binding to the objective second single-stranded nucleic acid sequence and useful as a capture probe or the like.
CONSTITUTION: This new nucleic acid multimer contains at least one first single stranded oligonucleotide unit capable of specifically binding to the objective first single-stranded nucleic acid sequence and a multiplicity of the second single-stranded oligonucleotide units capable of specifically binding to the objective individual second single-stranded nucleic acid units and at least a part of the oligonucleotide units are bound through a multifunctional part derived from a compound represented by the formula (R is an organic part, preferably a nucleic acid; R1 is a hydroxyl protecting group or a phosphoric acid protecting group; X is a phosphorus-containing group capable of promoting the nucleic acid synthesis; Y is a group derived from a nucleophilic group; R2 is an inhibiting group or a protecting group which can be replaced by hydrogen). The multimer is useful as a capture probe or the like in a hybridization assay.
