Abstract:
PURPOSE:To shorten operation start preparation time by introducing a combustion exhaust gas into a catalyst layer in a reformer to remove oxygen to produce inert gas, and replacing a fuel gas left in a system with the inert gas when the system is suspended. CONSTITUTION:When a system is suspended, air supply to a fuel cell main body 15 is stopped and a raw material pump 6 is also stopped. A raw material left in a carburator 10 is reformed with a reformer 11, and supplied to the cell main body 15, then burned with a burner 8 of a fuel reforming unit 29 as off-gas. At the same time, a closing valve 14 in a combustion gas introduction line 20 is opened and an exhaust gas is introduced into the reformer 11. Although the oxygen concentration in the exhaust gas is lower than in air, oxygen in the exhaust gas is removed by contact reaction in the reformer to form inert gas. This inert gas is supplied to the cell main body 15 from a fuel electrode inlet 16. Since the exhaust gas which comes in contact with a catalyst in the reformer has low oxygen concentration, when cell operation restarts, the rereduction of the catalyst is unnecessary.
