Abstract:
PURPOSE:To substantially prevent the generation of the axis misalignment of an optical fiber and to fix the fiber with high accuracy by fitting a shaft provided on a base into the hole of a support of a ferrule and adequately setting the fitting force of the shaft and the hole. CONSTITUTION:The shaft 5 of the base 1 is inserted into the hole of the support 2 and the ferrule 3 housing the optical fiber 4 is inserted into the through-hole of the support 2. The positions of the base 1, the support 2 and the ferrule 3 are adjusted by relatively moving these three in directions X, Y, Z and the ferrule 3 is welded to the support 2 in a weld zone A and the substrate is welded to the shaft 5 in a weld zone B by laser welding at the time of fixing these three. If the fitting sizes of the hole of the support 2 and the shaft 5 and the ferrule 3 are adequately set, the stresses generated at the time of the welding are offset by the fitting force thereof and the deviation of the parts is averted. The generation of the axial misalignment between the optical fiber 4 and a semiconductor laser 6 is thus substantially prevented.
