To provide an optical element which is subjected to hot water treatment, reduces the weight thereof, and is excellent in light shielding performance of a non-optical surface.
An optical element 101, which is subjected to hot water immersion treatment, includes: optically polished optical surfaces 103, 104; non-optical surfaces 105-107 which are provided on the outer periphery of the optical surfaces 103, 104 and subjected to surface roughening treatment so as to have an arithmetic average roughness of 5 μm or more; and shading films formed on the non-optical surfaces 105-107. The non-optical surfaces 105-107 include two first surfaces 105 whose main components are orthogonal to an optical axis of the optical element 101 and which are disposed away from each other in a direction parallel to the optical axis; a second surface 106 which is provided between the two first surfaces 105 and whose main components are parallel to the optical axis; and curved surfaces 107 which connect the two first surfaces 105 and the second surface 106. The curved surfaces 107 have a curvature radius of 1.0 mm or more.
