Abstract:
To provide a control technique for an optical modulator that suppresses the control fluctuation of a parent modulator bias.SOLUTION: A control method for an optical modulator including a first child modulator that generates a first optical signal according to a drive signal, a second child modulator that generates a second optical signal according to the drive signal, and a parent modulator that generates a third optical signal from the first optical signal and the second optical signal includes steps of: applying a first bias signal where a first dither signal is overlapped, to the first child modulator; applying a second bias signal where a second dither signal is overlapped, to the second child modulator; detecting an error component from the third optical signal; generating a correction component for correcting the error component from modulation light power and a coordinate value of a symbol point on a complex plane of the drive signal; generating an error signal by correcting the error component with the correction component; and adjusting a third bias signal to be applied to the parent modulator according to the error signal.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
