To provide an optical reproducing equipment that can discriminate accurately the classification of a read-only disk and a read-write disk even if a wobble signal is eliminated.
The optical reproducing equipment is equipped with a disk motor 2 rotating an optical disk 1, an optical head 3, a guide channel detector 4 and a pre-pit detector 5 each connected with the optical head 3, and a discrimination section 6 connected with both of the guide channel detector 4 and the pre-pit detector 5. The discrimination section 6 discriminates whether an optical disk 1 is a read-only disk or a read-write disk based on the detected results by the guide channel detector 4 and the pre-pit detector 5. The guide channel detector 4 detects whether a guide channel is formed based on the existence of the wobble signal. The pre-pit detector 5 detects whether a pre-pit is formed based on the intensity of the reflected light from the optical disk 1.
