Title:
OPTICALLY ACTIVE 2-SUBSTITUTED ALCOHOL, ITS INTERMEDIATE, AND THEIR PRODUCTION
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3735878
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide the new compound useful as a raw material for ferrodielectric liquid crystals, medicines, agricultural chemicals, etc.
CONSTITUTION: This compound is expressed by formula I (R1 is alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, arylpyrimidyl, etc.; R2 is alkyl substituted with two or more halogen atoms), e.g. 2-(4-benzyloxyphenyl)-5-(3,3-difluoro-2-hydroxymethylpropyl) pyrimidine. the compound of formula I is obtained by reducing an optically active 1-(2-substituted acyl)menthopyrazole derivative (with e.g. lithium aluminum halide) in the presence of a basic reagent in a solvent (e.g. THF) at a temperature near to a room temperature. When a bromine atom is contained in the substituent R2 of the compound of formula II, the R2 is hydrolyzed to replace the bromine atom with a hydrogen atom substantially without lowering the optical purity of the compound.
