EXAMPLE: 6-Methylnonal.
USE: An intermediate for liquid crystal compound, an optical resolution agent or an assistant for asymmetric synthesis. It is expected to have various physiological activities.
PREPARATION: The compound of formula can be produced by halogenating an optically active 4-methylalkanol compound, preparing a Grignard reagent therefrom and reacting the reagent with ethylene oxide.
