NEW MATERIAL:A hydroxyalkylsilane compound expressed by formula I [R1 and R2 represent H, halogen, -OCH3, -OCHF2, -OCF3, (halogen-substituted)phenyl, (halogen-substituted)phenoxy, -CF3 or 1-4C alkyl; n is 3-7].
EXAMPLE: 4-Hydroxybutyl-4-chlorophenylchloromethyl-methylsilane.
USE: An intermediate for synthesis of a physiologically active substance such as medicines, agricultural chemicals, etc., an intermediate for producing building blocks, an antioxidant, a surface treating agent, an adhesion promoting agent, a bio-controlling agent, etc.
PREPARATION: The hydroxy group of a haloalcohol expressed by formula II (X represents halogen) is protected with a protecting group, converted into a Grignard reagent, which is then reacted with a halosilane or alkoxysilane expressed by formula III (Y represents halogen or 1-4C alkoxy) and the protecting group is eliminated from the product.
