Abstract:
To provide a light calcium carbonate-coated particle which is obtained by using calcination ash and has high degree of whiteness and low wear resistance and to provide paper made from the particle.
Calcination ash is crushed until the average particle size becomes ≤3 μm and the crushed calcination ash particles are mixed in a water- based suspension containing calcium hydroxide. The peripheries of the calcination ash particles are coated with light calcium carbonate by making carbon dioxide or a carbon dioxide-containing gas pass through the water-based suspension. The light calcium carbonate-coated particle thus manufactured is used as a filler of filler-containing paper or a pigment for coated paper.
