Title:
PASSIVE INFRARED PEDESTRIAN DETECTION AND AVOIDANCE SYSTEM
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2023175741
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
To provide an improved system for driving autonomous travel vehicles that recognize unknown, unexpected and predictable situations or conditions on a road.SOLUTION: A passive infrared pedestrian detection and avoidance system and method for improving driving of a vehicle on a road, specifically a system and method for recognizing a risk of a potential pedestrian/vehicle collision of a traveling vehicle and adjusting a position and driving of the vehicle accordingly, includes at least one passive infrared sensor array attached to the vehicle in operative communication with an image processor connected to the driving system of the vehicle. The system uses a thermal image and thermal image processing to detect human presence. The image processor analyzes the detection of a human thermal feature, identifies in which direction and how fast it is moving, evaluates potential threats to a pedestrian or a biker, and determines whether a response operation to the vehicle driving is needed to avoid the collision.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
