PURPOSE: To provide a pattern recognition dictionary preparation device which and eliminates a need of the processing of affine part spaces of categories contending with a noticed category while taking the erroneous recognition rate as the evaluation reference and is easily applied to a multi-category pattern recognition dictionary.

CONSTITUTION: A standard feature vector update part 13 refers to a category limiting learning pattern recognition result storage part 11 to count the number of erroneously recognized patterns and takes out these patterns one by one to generate standard feature vectors, which are moved so as to extend the distances between erroneously recognized patterns and erroneous recognition destination categories, or partial space base vectors, which are moved so as to reduce the distances between erroneously recognized patterns and their correct answer categories, and transfers these vectors to a category limiting learning pattern recognition part 10. The part 10 uses transferred standard feature vectors instead of standard feature vectors stored in a standard feature vector storage part 3 to execute the category limiting recognition of the noticed category and categories contending with it.
