PURPOSE: To prepare a pencil lead giving uniform written trace on paper, having decreased electrostatic attraction force between the lead container, and suitable as a refill lead of a small propelling pencil, by impregnating mineral oil and an antistatic nonionic surface active agent into the pores of a pencil lead.

CONSTITUTION: An impregnating composition is prepared by mixing (A) a mineral oil (pref. spindle oil and/or liquid paraffin) and (B) a nonionic surface active agent which is miscible with said mineral oil and insoluble in water, and has antistatic activity (pref. polyoxyethylene alkyl ether surfactant). The mixing ratio of (A) to (B) is e.g. 7:3 by weight. The mixture is impregnated in the pores of a calcined pencil lead.

EFFECT: Propelling of the lead is smooth, and the written letter can be erased easily with an eraser.
