Abstract:

To provide a perfume and a fragrant substance comprising a usual perfume basic composition or a fragrant basic composition capable of mediating an odor suggesting a natural sandalwood or advantageously changing the fragrance present in the kind of the composition.

This perfume is a compound represented by the formula (2R/S,3 R/S)-3-methyl-4-[(E,1R/S,2R/S,6R/S,7R/S)tricyclo[5.2.1.02,6]dec-4-en-8- ylidene]butan-2-ol of the formula [wherein, the following descriptions each apply mutually irrespective thereof; (2R/S,3R/S) denotes (2R,3R), (2R,3S), (2S,3R) or (2S,3S); and [(E,1R/S,2R/S,6R/S,7R/S) denotes (E,1R,2R,6R,7R) or (E,1S,2S,6S,7 S)].
