To achieve highly precise personal authentication while using an indistinct finger vein pattern image with displacement regarding personal authentication under environment where contactless properties are requested.
The personal authentication system includes: a means for contactlessly acquiring the finger vein pattern image; a means for performing rotation correction using a contour of a finger as a method for taking out a vein pattern included in the acquired image; a means for normalizing a position of a finger image on the basis of the fingertip; a means for statistically acquiring the whole vein pattern by repeating tracking of a dark part of a luminance value for arbitrary length from any position of the image; a means of matching for comparing only a part in which strong features appear in its blood vessel pattern; and a means for dividing the image into small areas, and performing matching independently of each small area to evaluate a displacement when the small areas are matched to each other.
