To provide a personal effects holding appliance with a forgetting prevention function which eliminates redundancy of an apparatus.

The appliance has: a power supply; a personal effects holding detection apparatus; a presence-in-room detection apparatus; an alarm control unit; and an alarm generator. The personal effects holding detection apparatus has a personal effects holding mechanism for holding the personal effects and a switch means for conducting an electric connection with the power supply and the other apparatuses (the presence-in-room detection apparatus, the alarm control unit, and the alarm generator) only when the personal effects holding mechanism holds the personal effects. Thus, the other apparatuses are connected to the power supply only when the personal effects holding mechanism holds the personal effects. The presence-in-room detection apparatus generates a presence-in-room detection signal at first and second logic levels in correspondence with whether or not a person is present in the room and outputs it. The alarm control unit outputs an alarm control signal when the presence-in-room detection signal shifts from the first logic level to the second logic level. The alarm generator generates an alarm in response to the alarm control signal.
