PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide delivery systems that allow for the pulsatile release of a substance, such as a drug, in response to a change in pH for specific delivery of the drug to a selected site/zone in a gastrointestinal tract.SOLUTION: The invention relates to a pH-controlled pulsatile release system comprising a core surrounded by a coating layer, in which the core comprises an active substance, preferably pharmaceutical active substance, and the coating layer comprises a pH-sensitive coating material in which a swellable agent is embedded. More specifically, the invention relates to a drug administration to the gastrointestinal tract, particularly to site-specific intestinal drug delivery via an oral route. The above swelling agent can absorb water at least 1.1 times, preferably at least 5 times, and more preferably at least 10 times its weight. The above swelling agent is selected from sodium carboxymethyl starch and crosslinked carboxymethyl cellulose sodium. The above coating material is selected from the copolymers of cellulose acetate trimellitate, and methacrylate/methyl methacrylate, and the like.SELECTED DRAWING: None
