PURPOSE: To record the attitude of a camera onto a magnetic tape at the image pickup of a video camera.

CONSTITUTION: A camera section 16 obtains a digital video signal S1a as to an object 40. An attitude detection sensor 17 obtains the attitude detection signal S3 of the camera. A recording control section 15 records the digital video signal S1a onto the main code recording area of a magnetic tape 25. On the other hand, a digital attitude detection signal S4a is recorded onto a subcode recording area on the same track as the main code recording area. The digital attitude detection signal S4a recorded on the subcode recording area is reproduced at the reproduction onto a monitor 54 and a digital video signal S1 is corrected based on a reproduced digital attitude detection signal S2b to display an erected picture at all times on the tube screen of the monitor 54.
