Title:
POLARIZATION INDEPENDENT LIGHT PHASE MODULATOR
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3512150
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the effect of a parallax among optical elements such as an electrooptic modulator, a phase difference plate and a reflection plate by providing a polarization independent type electrooptic layer modulating a light phase having a specified polarization angle for an optical axis of a wavelength plate between the wavelength plate and a first substrate.
SOLUTION: This polarization independent light phase modulator contains upper part, lower part respective glass substrates 11, 12. The reflection plate 15 is provided between upper part, lower part respective glass substrates 11, 12, and a static 1/4 wavelength plate 16 is provided between the reflection plate 15 and the upper part glass substrate 11. A polarization independent ferroelectric liquid crystal layer 18 is provided between the static 1/4 wavelength plate 16 and the upper part glass substrate 11. The static 1/4 wavelength plate 16 contains the polarization independent type ferroelectric liquid crystal layer 18 modulating the light phase substantially having the polarization of 45° for the optical axis. By such a constitution, the polarization independent light phase modulator with the less effect of the parallax among the optical elements such as the electrooptic modulator, phase difference plate and reflection plate 15 and with a wide usable incident angular range is obtained.
