Title:
POSITION DETECTING METHOD FOR MAGNETICALY LEVITATED RUNNING BODY
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH04198713
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PURPOSE:To fluctuate the light level only at the magnetic field application point and detect the absolute position of a running body by transmitting the polarized light on a light transmission line holding the polarization plane, applying the magnetic field of the magnetically levitated running body to the polarized light, and polarization-rotating the polarized light via the Faraday effect. CONSTITUTION:The polarized light is transmitted on a light transmission line 3 capable of holding the polarization plane and installed on the running path 2 for a magnetically levitated running body 1, the magnetic field is applied to the polarized light from the running body 1, and the polarized light is polarization-rotated by the Faraday effect. The light level only at the magnetic field application point is fluctuated, the fluctuated polarized light is scattered backward and received by a polarization backward scattered light analyzer 5, and the absolute position of the running body 1 is detected. The absolute position, not the relative position, of the magnetically levitated running body 1 can be detected with the light transmission line 3, and a detecting device can be simplified at a low cost.
