To improve the appearance of a thermal-sprayed film formed from a powder for thermal spraying containing a melted/pulverized powder of alumina.
The powder for thermal spraying includes the melted/pulverized powder of alumina, and includes four or less colored particles by the number in one gram of the powder for thermal spraying. The powder for thermal spraying has preferably a polishing rate (unit: gram/minute) of up to the value obtained by raising a 50% particle diameter (unit: micrometer) of the powder for thermal spraying to the 0.6-th power and further multiplying the product by 0.2, when the polishing rate is defined by the weight of polished and removed borosilicate glass per unit time when the borosilicate glass has been polished by using an aqueous dispersion containing the powder for thermal spraying of 13.6 mass% with a polishing load of 16.2 kPa.
