PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the size and weight of a power converter with travel wind cooling system, using the travel wind of rolling stock for cooling, while improving the cooling performance.SOLUTION: A power converter of rolling stock is constituted of: a main transformer for connection with a single-phase AC stringing; first power conversion element groups 6a, 6b for converting a single-phase AC power, supplied from the main transformer, into a DC power; second power conversion element groups 7a, 7b for converting the DC power into an AC power and driving an AC motor; a first power unit 3a where some of the first power conversion element groups and some of the second power conversion element groups are provided on a first coolant having a heat release part 5a; and a second power unit 3b where some of the reminder of the first power conversion element groups and some of the reminder of the second power conversion element groups are provided on a second coolant having a heat release part 5b. The first power unit is placed close to one side of the rolling stock, and the second power unit is placed close to the other side thereof.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1A
