Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain the compound which is an odorant after obtaining an odorant intermediate by a direct process or 2 step-process from an E,E-6-(2',6',6'- trimethyl-cyclohexa-1'-en-1'-yl)-4-methyl-hexa-2,4-dien-1-al.
CONSTITUTION: The compound of formula II is obtained by reacting an E, E-6-(2',6',6'-trimethyl-cyclohexa-1'-en-1'-yl)-4-methyl-hexa-2,4-dien-1-al of formula I with a sodium dithionite in the presence of a (a) lithium aluminium hydride or a (b) sodium bicarbonate in aqueous solution and of a phase transfer catalyst under a higher temperature. Or the compound of formula II is obtained by reducing a compound of formula I with a compound (a), (c) sodium borohydride or (d) sodium bis(2-methoxyethoxy)aluminium dihydride to obtain a compound of formula III under a lower temperature and subsequently reacting a compound (a) or a compound (b) under a higher temperature. F urther, if desired, the compound of formula II is converted to a furan mixture.
