Abstract:
PURPOSE: To reduce and ease the pressure applied to a user lying on a mattress by making upper and lower layers have a higher density and a higher initial flexibility than an intermediate layer, and making the indentation load deviation values of the upper and lower layers at 5, 25, and 65% deviation points lower than the corresponding indentation load deviation values of the intermediate layer. CONSTITUTION: A mattress 10 includes upper 12 and lower 15 layers of polyurethane foam, which are glued to an intermediate layer 14 made of different polyurethane foam. The upper and lower layer polyurethane densities are both about 2.30-2.70lbs/ft<3> , which are higher than the density of the intermediate layer 14, about 1.80-2.00lbs/ft<3> . Also, the upper and lower layers have a higher initial flexibility ratio than the intermediate layer. Further, the 5, 25, and 65% indentation load deviation values(ILD) of the intermediate layer are higher than the corresponding ILD values of the upper and lower layers, and therefore firm support is provided by the intermediate layer. As a result, the pressure applied to the user lying on the mattress can be reduced and eased.
