A printing guide mechanism 10 has a carriage assembly 12 and a pair of parallel guide rods 14, 16 on which the carriage assembly 12 is arranged for the linear motion along a track parallel to a shaft. The carriage assembly 12 has a frame 17 and is provided on the guide rods 14, 16 so as to be made movable only by one degree of freedom and the operation thereof is parallel to the guide rods 14, 16. The movement of the carriage assembly 12 along the guide rods 14, 16 can be achieved by any desired mechanism. A lead screw 18 is rotated to move the carriage assembly 12 along the guide rods 14, 16.
