To dechlorinate a mixed waste plastic while realizing a high degree of chlorination without lowering yields of dechlorinated products and making frequent maintenance unnecessary.
A mixed waste plastic P1 introduced into a reactor 1 is maintained at the heat decomposition temperature of PVC lower than that of PET for a definite time in a reducing atmosphere to selectively decompose the PVC into dechlorinated products. According to this process, a high degree of dechlorination can be attained by adjusting the residence time of the PVC, and besides the degree of dechlorination can be freely controlled, and dechlorination products can be obtained in high yields because the PET can remain undecomposed. When compared with a process utilizing an extruder, this process is alleviated in bite of foreign matter and maintenance against corrosion and does not require countermeasures against sublimation products resulting from the decomposition of PET and maintenance.
