Abstract:

PURPOSE: To produce the subject compound from 2,3-epoxy-2,3-dimethylbutane in high yield by employing a substance selected from sulfuric acid, sulfonic acids, a boron trifluoride complexes and strong ion exchange resins as a catalyst.

CONSTITUTION: On the production of 2,3-epoxy-2,3-dimethylbutane from 3,3- dimethyl-2-butanone, the reaction is performed in the presence of a catalyst selected from sulfuric acid, sulfonic acids (e.g. benzene sulfonic acid), boron trifluoride complexes (e.g. boron trifluoride ether) and strongly acidic ion exchange resins (e.g. a polystyrenic ion exchange resin having sulfonyl groups as functional groups). The method permits to achieve a high yield.
