Abstract:
PURPOSE:To produce an Al support for a planographic printing plate having superior water retentivity, printing resistance and image reproducibility by successively subjecting the surface of a web-shaped Al plate to mechanical polishing, alkali etching, electropolishing with AC in an electrolytic soln. having a specified compsn. and alkali etching. CONSTITUTION:When a web-shaped Al plate is continuously polished, the surface of the Al plate is mechanically polished to about 0.3-0.6mum average roughness (Ra) along the center line and etched by about 2-13g/cm<2> by treatment for about 2-60sec with an alkali etching soln. having about 1-60wt.% concn. The surface is then electropolished with AC in an electrolytic soln. contg. 30-100g/l hydrochloric acid and 2.0-30g/l boric acid and 15-50g/l Al ions and alkali etching is further carried out. An Al support having superior water retentivity, printing resistance and satisfactory adhesion to a photosensitive layer is obtd.
