Abstract:
Anhydrous stable lactose is obtained by extruding crystalline alpha -lactose hydrate as a dry product in an extruder the jacket of which is heated to temperatures above 100 DEG C. Preferably an extruder is used in which a gradual controlled build-up of shear takes place.
