Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain the coating cermet excellent in wear resistance at the time of chemically vapor-depositing Ti nitride on the surface of a cermet having a specified composition by using a gaseous mixture contg. ammonia in the process.

CONSTITUTION: A cermet consisting of 70-95wt.% of ≥1 kind of hard dispersed phase forming component such as the carbide, nitride and carbonitride of Ti, Zr, Hf, Ta, Nb, W, Mo and Cr and 5-30wt.% of ≥1 kind of binder phase forming component such as Co, Ni and Al is prepared. A gaseous mixture contg. ammonia (Ti tetrachloride, ammonia and H2) is used when Ti nitride is chemically vapor-deposited on the surface of the cermet. The deposition is carried out at 700-900°C.
